Playing the first Test series after a year’s ban, Steve Smith has taken away his reign from Virat Kohli. Smith has now become the No. 1 Test batsman in the ICC’s newly released rankings. At the same time, Virat Kohli has slipped to the second position.
Smith was rewarded for his tremendous performance in the Ashes. He batted tremendously, scoring two centuries and a half-century in two Tests. Smith returned after a one-year ban, scoring 144 and 142 in the first Test.
At the same time, Virat Kohli could not do much in the Test series on the West Indies tour and only two half-centuries in four innings of two Test matches. While Virat scored 60 runs in both innings of the first Test, in the second Test, he scored 76 runs with a Golden Duck.
Let us know that Virat had been the number one Test batsman for the last almost one year. But Smith’s comeback and strong performance caused him to lose one point, which caused him to slip to second place.
In the latest Test rankings released by the ICC, Steve Smith ranks first with 904 points. At the same time, Team India captain Virat has dropped to second place with 903 points. New Zealand captain Ken Williamson is placed third with 878 points after him.
